Your Role
1QBit is looking for an expert in quantum optics and photonics to work on theoretical and experimental aspects of emergent optics-based computing platforms and investigate their applications. Our Hardware Innovation Lab (HIL) is interested in hearing from high-calibre scientists who would be excited to contribute to research and development at the various layers of the full stack of quantum computing and advanced classical computing. In collaboration with its hardware partners, HIL team members employ their expertise in classical and quantum computing to develop technologies that will enable scalable and applicable quantum computing as well as processors beyond the circuit model.

What You'll Do

  • Work alongside peers who have unique and creative backgrounds in physics, computer science, mathematics, and engineering
  • Continually learn through your work and active engagement with the academic community
  • Engage in knowledge transfer on quantum optics and photonics to teammates working in the broader field of quantum information processing
  • Present to and learn from collaborators
  • Design and analyze algorithms
  • Design and implement numerical experiments
  • Perform simulations and benchmarking
  • Take part in crafting reports, drafting patents, authoring publications, and attending conferences

What You'll Bring

  • A PhD with a research focus on theoretical or experimental quantum optics
  • Passion for the fields of quantum information processing and advanced computing
  • Strong expertise and demonstrated research experience in quantum optics; solid background knowledge in the quantum theory of light, including its key concepts, such as Fock space, quantum coherence, quantum noise, squeezed vacuum states, entangled states, quadrature operators, phase space representations of quantum states of light (the Wigner distribution, P representations, etc.), homodyne measurement, non-linear quantum optics, the theory of open quantum systems, master equations, and stochastic processes and their modeling with stochastic differential equations
  • A strong track record in research demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and top-tier conference presentations
  • Experience with Unix/Linux and strong programming skills (e.g., Python, C/C++)
  • The ability to work well with others towards a common goal
  • Research independence: the ability to take responsibility and initiative to conduct your research as required in working towards the common goal
